With cold season upon us, I want to share with you my favorite vitamins and supplements to have on hand in case you start having cold or upper respiratory symptoms. This way you have them ready so you can immediately start on it rather than waiting till you become symptomatic because there’s always delay in getting things!
Immunity supplements I recommend:
1. Manuka honey: Start immediately when sick or even take a teaspoon daily as a preventive measure. One with UMF 20+, can be found at Whole Foods or here is one from Amazon
2. Bee keepers nasal spray: can be found at Whole Foods or from Amazon
3. Bee keepers throat spray: good for daily use even for prophylaxis for kids and adults
4. Immunity and Cough syrup: again good for daily use during this season to get Vit c, zinc and echinacea. Any brand with these ingredients, this is one option
5. I recommend taking Vitamin D, Vitamin C, echinacea and Zinc regularly during these months. Any brand of their choice.
6. Guduchi: good to take a capsule daily as prophylaxis and if feeling sick take two daily (for adults only)
7. Sitopaladi powder: take immediately when starting to feel congested, full in ears or with sore throat/post nasal drip, combine 1 tsp of warm ghee with 1 tsp of powder and take 1-2 times daily (kids ages 4 and up only 1/4 tsp)
8. Ghee: ghee is the prefer fat of choice when sick because it helps clear out the congestion faster. Avoid butter, coconut oil, seed oils and vegetable oils when sick. A good brand is
9. Sip on respiratory support read of their choice. I have a immunity blend in the clinic but a few others online are this
When sick I also advise patients to limit the following for a week: eggs, all dairy, all fresh fruits, raw salads, avocado, cold food and beverages, fried food, shelled fish, sugary food. Instead have food like soups, kitchari, lots of veggies, lean meats, rice, millets, porridge, teas, toast with ghee.
